Post-Construction Cleaning After the Trades Finish

Dust-producing work, punch-list sanding and trade traffic should be finished before detailed cleaning begins. Utilities, safe lighting, working restrooms and unobstructed access should be available. Contractors remain responsible for construction debris, sharp objects and code or safety issues unless a specific disposal scope is approved.

A walkthrough identifies floor materials, fresh coatings, high surfaces, adhesive residue and areas needing staged cleaning.

Depending on the project, work may move from an initial removal of loose ordinary dust to detailed wiping of reachable surfaces, cabinets, fixtures, glass and floors. Fine dust can resettle, so timing and air-system status matter.

Manufacturer cure times and product restrictions for new flooring, paint, stone, cabinetry and fixtures must be shared before cleaning.

Define whether the goal is a contractor handoff, owner walkthrough or occupancy preparation. Sticker removal, interior glass, appliance protection film and cabinet interiors should be listed rather than assumed. Cleaning can improve presentation but cannot repair scratches, overspray, damaged finishes or defective work.
